Objectives of Seed Processing

The main goal of processing is to provide farmers with robust, uniform seed that is hygienic, sterilized, and available in handy pack sizes at the appropriate time.

• Proper Measuring and Storage

  After seed arrives from the producing field, it is weighed using a calibrated electronic scale. Raw seed is kept in separate, clearly marked bins on pallets and are recorded as inventory.

• Fumigation and Drying

  The lots are continuously checked for the ideal moisture level; if the moisture content is higher than usual, the seed is dried. To stop diseases and infestations, seed lots are fumigated.

• Organize Tests for Quality Assurance and Control

  Every lot is sampled upon arrival in order to start a variety of quality testing. The guard sample is stored for future use. When conditioning, packing, and storing seeds in a processing plant, the quality of the seeds obtained in the producing field must be strictly maintained.

• Packing and Conditioning

  When seed lots are sent from production fields, they contain a variety of physical contaminants, such as weed seed, ODV seed sample, straw, broken seed, stones, soil particles, and other foreign inert materials. Seed may include contaminants, such as diseases, for uncontrollable reasons. If contaminated seed is sown, the yield will be reduced. In order to achieve homogeneity, the physical appearance caused by variations in size, shape, and color is sorted mechanically and with the use of electronic tools. After determining the ideal season and pack sizes, the seed lots are packed, stored, and then sent to the dealer distribution network after being deemed quality fit.

• On-time Delivery

  Timely dispatch by the processing facility is necessary for seed to be available in the market at the appropriate time. This team works in tandem with the logistics department to guarantee that accurate pack sizes and quantities are shipped in accordance with validated orders to the distributor/dealer network promptly.

• Traceability and Identity

Both forward traceability—where it was shipped—and backward traceability—where it was produced—are made easier by lot and batch-based management. If any quality issues are reported from the fields, this aids in the root cause study.
